Lien on me

Today I had a super fun call with our attorney. By super fun I mean not fun at all. Today we found out there is not one but FIVE liens on the deed to our house. Now, I don't want to judge anyone, but let's just consider how we got here.

So some poor soul buys the house then can't afford it for any number of reasons. Then that person continues to default not only on the house (that's one lien), but on mortgage tax (lien 2), town taxes (lien 3) and to three other private parties who then try to leverage the house against the homeowner.

Then when the bank is foreclosing on the house, the lawyer they chose to represent them does not file paperwork in a timely manner and has now effectively not cleared any of the liens, all of which are still active against the property.

So now, we have to go back to the bank to get them to potentially reopen the foreclosure to clear up the countless liens so we can obtain a clean deed upon possession of the property. For reals.

No one really seems concerned about us losing the house except me. I know Fannie Mae and the IRS aren't in the business of owning homes and it's in their interest to sell to us, it's just a matter of WHEN. Oh this will surely test my patience (or lack thereof). Big deep breaths...
