i win

Kim Kardashian may have worn more wedding dresses than me and spent/received meelions more than I did, but after a mere 74 days of competing marriage, I officially win.

Now don't get me wrong, I don't want ANYONE to get divorced. Not even famous people who might be doing it for publicity/strangely awarded Hollywood-like funds. It's just crazy to think that someone could get married and after only this tiny bit of time, is not willing to make it work.

I honestly don't think we've been married long enough to even have a real married-life related fight, and we decided to move to another state 6 weeks after our wedding! Crazy times! I wonder what's going to happen to that gigundo ring. Hey Kim, I've got a spare finger. I bet we're the same ring size. Help a sister out...

bangarang ruffio

Well I did it. I got bangs. I have to say, the hubster and I both find them "banging" - yes, I can forewarn you right now that I've been making a lot of bang puns. You're welcome in advance.

I hadn't had bangs like this in a super long time and I thought it seemed fitting to move to a new state, get a new name and some new bangs. No this is not "Enough" and I am not Jennifer Lopez (or Erin Schleeter) and this is not the witness protection program. I just needed a change. Another one. Among the many changes going on in my life right now. Whatever don't judge me.

Apparently, I'm really going back to my roots with this style. A friend made me realize that I had the same bangs in Kindergarten and looked equally as adorable.

Too bad I can't find that Carebears sweater in my size anymore. That thing was a dude magnet. Not really, I was a late bloomer, but a girl can dream. I mean, I'm clearly thinking of something other worldly in this photo.

That's it for now. I hope this will suffice as my Halloween costume for the year. I've committed to being the 5 year old me for the foreseeable future. Look at that dedication...

a lesson in separation

Normally I've done my own laundry. Don't get me wrong, I've been doing it for years. But I'm used to having to wait until I'm on my last pair of underpants before I strap my dirty laundry on my back and get it done. So now that I'm able to do smaller loads, it's kind of a whole new ball game.

So today, I had a load of darks and like 4 whites so I thought 'what's the big deal?' well the big deal is that when paired with a fairly new pair of olive green pants, white shirts turn light green. To my benefit, they actually dyed quite evenly do they're wearable, but now I'm kind of running low on plain white tees. Boo hiss.

moose

Ah! I just saw my first moose and it happened to be in my favorite form of animal. Baby.

Yup. Not one but two baby moose nibbling on some delicious grass beside the road. They were so cute and chocolatey brown. If I wasn't 100% positive they would eat me I would've stopped for a hug.

Screw the license plates and new ID. I'm pretty sure this makes me an official Vermonter.

a dodged bullet

The super mean weather people (some call them meteorologists but I prefer super mean weather people. I mean, how often do they predict meteors?) predicted an inch of snow last night. Luckily, we woke up to dry grounds, blue skies and, well, not luckily, 24 degrees. But my amazing husband still went out for a run (crazy) and I vowed to do an hour of yoga tonight. Let's see how this one shapes up kiddos.

a new love?

After several dead ends I found reasonably priced fleece-lined leggings at Anthropologie. I don't normally shop there because everything is a beellion dollars and looks like it needs to be ironed. I may be swayed though. I placed my order this morning and got a same day shipment notification! If these things come before the stated shipment date and are as awesome as I hope they are then Anthro has a new customer. At least to the sale rack...

overheard in vt

These are just a few things I can be heard saying when my husband plays video games.

That guy is scary
Watch out!
He's a lot bigger than you
I may have nightmares
Did you just shoot him with a poison arrow?
Why is everyone so mean?
Don't die!
You died
Does this make me a widow?

I can see how I may not be the least distracting audience ever...

what the cool kids are wearing

Our LLBean order came just in time for our first snow shower in the forecast. We decided to model our new wares for you.

I also got this cute new sweater from Ideeli. What do you think?

Oh, and we're drinking Clown Shoes Brown Angel. Super tasty

today in simple pleasures

When it starts raining and you've run out of energy, its nice to always have good beer on hand. Sometimes the perks of my husband's job are just too good to be true

so official

I'm a Goldfried and a licensed Vermont driver.

It's also official that the Vermont DMV is the most pleasant DMV I've ever been too. They congratulated me on getting married and welcomed me to the state. I'm still a little caught of guard by the niceness...

our digs

Here's where we'll be living for the next year or so.

Taken from right to left standing in our doorway.

a new leaf

Ok ok, it's early for a fall pun, but I do what I want.

I'm pretty proud of myself. I woke up with my alarm, no snoozing, went for a run (even though it was 34 degrees) and made myself a healthy breakfast. I even put together a cute little outfit for the day. So far I think I woke up a winner.

a quick realization

With some snow in the forecast for late this week, we're coming to the quick realization that we're completely unprepared for this.

Looks like we'll be paying the equivalent of rent to LL Bean this month

first night out

Mr and Mrs Goldfried had their first night out on the town in the Parlor at Farmhouse Grill & Tap.

It was perfect.

The vibe reminded me of an old pub in England. Long wooden tables with old school darts and a fire place. Best of all, it had all of the nerdy beers Evan loves and they were all super drinkable and not inaccessible to more pedestrian drinkers like myself. I had a great Ayinger Oktoberfest and Evan tried a bevy of different triple IPAs (pictured below)

I was excited to see a local steak tartare and chicken liver pâté. Both were amazing. Evan being the liver enthusiast he is, was super pumped for the pate. (excitement pictured below)

All in all it was a pretty great evening.

what a difference 2 months makes

Today is our two month wedding anniversary. It's hard to believe that only two months have passed since we said "I do." So much has changed in our lives and it's all for the better.

Happy anniversary my love. I can't wait to see what the future has in store for us.

looks like we're staying

not too shabby

Even though I'm stuck inside on a beautiful fall day, I've got the windows open and music on. I guess I can't complain...

missing the service

Ok I won't lie. Waking up with a stress related kink in my neck, bushy brows and chipped nails made me miss the cheap and fast maintenance services of NYC living. What I wouldn't give for my uber thorough and speedy waxer Mona to be down the street again.

I guess I'm going to have to learn how to pluck, shave and paint my way to beauty like normal people do.

I hear there's a strong Vietnamese population in Winooski so I'm still holding out in hopes of a good cheap Asian massage nearby...

A silver lining

I worked until 9 tonight. However, I was coaxed outside for a 10min dog walk, had a quick lunch away from my desk, got to hug my husband as soon as he came home from work, had wine delivered to my desk and was able to take a break to eat dinner. I say that's quite the silver lining.

Working from home: 1
Work: 0

NYC needs this

A much needed 6pm wine delivery from my sister. GOD this is better than it should be allowed to be. NYC really needs a rush hour wine delivery. Until then, I'll drink up as I work from home. #winning (or should I say wine-ing)

today in simple pleasures

Well I've spent the last 30 minutes watching help desk download things on my computer so it seemed like the appropriate time to open my fancy new Sonicare and give it a whirl.

This thing is worlds better than my old Oral B. My gums feel like a Kobe beef cow. All massaged and full of beer. Ok the beer is Evan's fault but the massaging! Wow!

And that is today's simple pleasure. Brought to you by Sonicare and the Beverage Warehouse

exploring our new home

After spending the majority of the morning/afternoon dealing with the DMV, working, and finding out how much silly paperwork is needed to change our registration, we decided to spend some time on our last day off to explore our new home state.

First up was the Vermont Pub and Brewery. We had read about this place but never went because of it's proximity to our favorite place on earth, American Flatbread. I'm glad we tried it because it's kind of awesome. I had a great ESB and Evan got a saison followed by an awesome Irish ale. (ESB and saison pictured below)

Then we made our way to the cannery of the Alchemist. The actual brewpub was destroyed by hurricane Irene and is under reconstruction until 2012. Luckily, their cannery is located far enough away that it's still operational. We tried some Headdy Topper on tap then brought some cans home for future enjoyment. (brewery also pictured below)

And we topped it off with none other than a visit to the Ben and Jerry's Factory just down the road. As you can see, Evan was super pumped about this stop off so we made it brief.

All in all it was a great day. Now its time to start the adventures of working from home...

the benefits of country living

After 2 nights of 8 uninterrupted hours of sleep I think it's safe to say the city was screwing with my sleep patterns.Whether it was the giant dogs in our courtyard, poor air quality or constant stimuli, I welcome the change. I'm actually pretty excited to see what productivity comes out of this new phenomenon. Yes, a good nights sleep is a phenomenon. Judge me.

Now I think I'll test out this new rested self with my first run since saying 'I do'. Yes it's been two months, get off my case already. And it's 3 miles. And it's with other people. I see vomit and/or embarrassment in my future. Fun times.

a fresh start

After 6 long years of living in New York City, I called it quits. The majority of my city years were spent in Brooklyn. During these years, the hub and I have tested a plethora of career moves and managed to throw a pretty killer wedding.

With that as the cherry on top of a good run, we packed up a u-haul and gave up our sweet rent stabilized apartment and turned our heads north to the Green Mountain State. We Goldfrieds are pretty pumped, but won't be surprised when a few adjustment periods and culture shocks come our way. You lucky folks get to benefit from the hilarity.

You're welcome.

As far as the move went, it was pretty hilarity-free. The planets aligned for one of the most seamless moves imaginable. It was, of course, not without 2.5 hours of traffic between Brooklyn and Westchester, but thats besides the point.

Since then, the past 48 hours have been spent unpacking, assembling furniture and settling in. We've even had 3 neighbors stop by to welcome us with gifts and hugs. Not exactly a typical New York welcome, but I could get used to this.

You should be impressed to learn that one part of our suburbian move came quite easily, the Costco membership. We even saved a ton of money on our insurance by switching to Vermont. We already had Geico, but living and driving anywhere else in America is cheaper.

Well there's nothing like a fresh new start to start a fresh new blog to document a new life together in a new place and all of the fun stuff that comes with it.

More updates to come but until then this is what you're stuck with.
